March ARB 2012

arialnote:

A hot and clear sky Saturday morning welcomed everyone to the March Air Reserve Base in Riverside California. As I recall, more than 250,000 people appeared to cheer the pilots and various acts. Our beloved flag descended with skydivers as Whitney Huston, via audio, sings the National Anthem. Arial maneuvers by some including Tim Weber and Steve Hinton while Robosaur was eating cars a several hundred feet behind us. The Smoke & Thunder jet car caught my eye as Bill Brook, the driver, raced John Colliver, the pilot, in a T6 while the song Dueling Banjos played in the background. Later the Patriots, which I learned to be civilian owned, flew and gave a remarkable performance with many amazing aerobatics with an assortment of good songs including Kryptonite , Born to be Wild, and Walk This Way. Rob Harrison also attended with his delightful and very funny wife, Susan, whom I got to meet later. Mr. Tumbling Bear and his Zlin 50LX preformed a series of remarkable maneuvers as Susan announced each play by play, all very entertaining. The day wasn’t complete without the very talented the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. Their amazing stunts and heart stopping maneuvers was a thrill to watch. The only draw back, in my opinion, is the pre-show is long winded and boring. However, stay tuned because they quickly make it up after they take off.
